KATHMANDU: Indian spiritual guru Ravi Shanker today said that politics and spirituality should go hand in hand for a prosperous and harmonious society.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Art of Living Nepal Chapter today, the spiritual guru said that politics and religion are strongly related since time immemorial.

“Spirituality should not be avoided at any cost for any society to prosper, as it works well to lessen corruption and irregularities,” he added.

Answering queries of the mediapersons, the spiritual leader said that for harmonious development of any country, its four pillars — spirituality, economy, politics and people — should be strong.

He went on to support the idea of Nepal as a Hindu state. “Like thousands of other people, I also want Nepal to be a symbol of ancient religion, but all other religions should be respected in it,” he said.

A noted humanitarian leader, his programmes have provided assistance to victims of natural disasters, survivors of terror attacks and war, children from marginalised populations and communities in conflict across the world.

He announced plans to open 30 schools in different parts in Nepal to provide free education for poor children.

He further summoned all Kathmanduites to work hand in hand to make the rivers and temples of the Capital city clean.

The Indian spiritual leader also expressed hope that in the next five to six years, Nepal would prosper tremendously.

Ravi Shanker, who founded The Art of Living as an international, non-profit, educational and humanitarian organisation, focused on creating a stress-free, violence–free society.

He had arrived in Kathmandu yesterday and conducted a Maha satsang at Tudikhel the same day.
